AKC CGC Testing

The AKC Canine Good Citizen™ (CGC) program provides a perfect framework for training your dog to become a polite member of society.

12 registration slots for this testing event will open on Saturday, 6/1/24 at 4pm.  MDTC members and non-members are welcome to take the CGC test of 10 practical, functional behaviors that every dog should have to be welcome in the community. This is a pass/fail test so no refunds are allow if your dog does not pass all tested items.

If your dog successfully passes all 10 test items, you be provided an official AKC form to either submit to AKC by mail or online for application of title thru AKC's Portal: https://www.apps.akc.org/title-application-portal/ 

NOTE: AKC's CGC application/titling fee is separate from Merrimac Dog Training Club's $17 testing fee.

Required Equipment for Actual CGC testing:  Well-fitting buckle or slip collar (including martingales) made of leather or fabric are allowed. A harness is also allowed. Prong collars are NOT allowed for testing. A 4-6 foot long leash made of leather or fabric (NO retractable leashes are permitted). A 20 foot long line/leash will used to during testing all dogs on the long distance recall.
